Malaga Airport Expansion

The new Malaga airport expansion has been approved, and is due to begin in 2028. This new project will effectively double the usable size of the airport, increase the amount of gates and modernise the existing systems.

Malaga airport expansion

Upon completion, Malaga could be the 3rd largest airport in Spain and a gateway for over 200 global destinations. This will far exceed many European capital city airports. The cost of the Malaga airport expansion is expected to cost 1.5 billion euros, and is scheduled for completion around 2035. The project will be over 4 or 5 phases, with initial phases expecting to be completed as early as 2032. The current passenger capacity is 30 million and this could almost double to +55 million passenger per year.

All good news for Malaga

As Malaga as grown in recent years, it has attracted billions in investment. This in turn has generated thousands of high paying jobs, helped to increase property prices and encourage further growth. Landlords have improved returns and even with higher rents, the demand remains strong.

This new Malaga airport expansion will undoubtedly, double down on recent growth, both in and around the city, plus along the coast. We expect demand for properties to continue, if not improve in Malaga City, and along the Costa del Sol.

As the summer of 2025 comes to an end, we are continuing to see new projects being released. Better still, we are seeing property sales of these new developments being snapped up by both national and international investors and families.

The summer of 2025 has been busier than expected, and sales have continued, with barely a lull in demand. Quality properties remain scarce, especially at ‘affordable levels’. There is also an increased interest in homes and apartments in need of renovation.

We have also seen an increase in rental prices,

In the last year have rental prices have risen by 6.8% in Malaga City, and by over 10% across the Costa.
